Transcontinental Grapevine – interactive work for the Linux Laptop Orchestra’s (L2Ork) L2Ork Tweeter platform that makes the work’s strict EDM timing possible despite two groups of performers (total of 11) being over 5,000 miles apart (Blacksburg, VA, USA, and Buenos Aires, Argentina). A theme and variations based on the opening from Lane 8’s “Grapevine” feat. Elderbrook. All the content is crowdsourced, or co-created by 11 participants, including instruments. 2022.
“Transcontinental Grapevine” is a crowdsourced work by the Virginia Tech Linux Laptop Orchestra (L2Ork) that was co-created and performed with L2Ork’s Buenos Aires collaborators from UNTREF. The work is inspired by the introductory loop of the “Grapevine” song by Lane 8 and Elderbrook and utilizes L2Ork Tweeter online collaborative music making platform that allows for perfect sync among performers regardless the distance (in this case two groups of performers, 10 in total, were over 5,000 miles apart).
This is a performance from the April 22nd Earth Day Model online-only festival. The original take can be viewed on the Earth Day Model’s website: https://edam2023.deck10.media/stages/…
The only change to this video is the adjustment the sync issue between the left and right channels of the Lane 8’s intro (first 50 seconds) that was observable on the host’s side. The audio quality is as it was captured by the Deck10 system.
