Abstract

Introduced in 2010, Pd-L2Ork emerged from the now defunct Pd-Extended variant of Pure-Data. Motivated by a unique set of needs and requirements set forth by Virginia Tech’s Linux Laptop Orchestra (L2Ork) and its multipronged mission, Pd-L2Ork seeks to promote ensemble’s artistic affirmation through its embodied and telematic musicking identities, experimentation with new approaches to human-computer interaction, focus on beginner-friendly usability, and an extensive outreach and engagement into the K-12 education. The following paper offers a lighthearted reflection on the past 15 years of the L2Ork ensemble and its software Pd-L2Ork, and highlights recent developments, including synchronous telematic musicking regardless of distance, Pure-Data parity, and the introduction of WebPdL2Ork.
